Exploration without an account.

No account is required. We use Google Analytics to understand visits and broad map interactions, with safeguards that keep search text and exact map locations out of analytics.

Requests made while you use the map

Aerial tiles, imagery-date lookups, and search text are sent to official NC OneMap services so those features can work. If an optional MapTiler key is configured, reference-map requests are sent directly to MapTiler. Elevation requests go to this site’s server and read the published terrain artifacts needed for the selected point.

Shareable URLs

The map stores longitude, latitude, zoom, bearing, comparison position, and an optional inspected point in the URL. This state stays in the address you choose to copy or share; it is not an account or saved search history.

Local storage, cookies, and analytics

Google Analytics 4 uses cookies and pseudonymous browser identifiers to measure page visits, referring sites, device/browser information, and broad actions such as searching, comparing terrain, requesting elevation, changing the display, and sharing. We disable advertising personalization and Google signals. We send only recognized page paths and coarse event categories: no search strings, street addresses, exact coordinates, elevation inspection locations, names, email addresses, or custom IP-derived identifiers. Analytics URLs omit query strings and fragments; external referrers are reduced to their site origin. Automatic search, form, and browser-history measurement is disabled. Analytics is optional to map operation: the map continues to work if Google Analytics is blocked. Your browser can block analytics or clear its cookies.

Server and provider logs

The site host and external map providers may retain ordinary request, security, and error logs, which can include an IP address, time, requested URL, browser information, and service status. Application diagnostics classify terrain and elevation failures without intentionally recording search text, exact addresses, selected coordinates, credentials, or persistent user identifiers.
